Right in the village is the Carinthian Open-Air Museum Maria Saal, part of the Landesmuseum Kärnten: around four hectares with six historic farmsteads plus mills, a sawmill, a lime kiln and a charcoal pile from the 18th and 19th centuries. The museum is usually open from May to October; current opening times are listed at landesmuseum.ktn.gv.at.
Also only minutes away are the Gothic cathedral of Maria Saal, the Duke’s Chair in the Zollfeld and the Magdalensberg Archaeological Park with the excavations of a Roman town. Hochosterwitz Castle, the Pyramidenkogel tower and the lidos on Lake Wörthersee make good half-day trips; Klagenfurt with its old town, Benediktinermarkt and Minimundus is about 15 minutes away.
In winter, ski areas such as the Gerlitzen Alpe, Petzen or Simonhöhe are easy to reach by car, and in Advent the Christmas market in Klagenfurt is a highlight. In spring and autumn the Zollfeld and the surrounding hills are ideal for cycling and hiking.
